UPDATED: St Gothard Road resurfacing starts
St Gothard Road is to be resurfaced, with the work scheduled for next week (11th Jan – 15th Jan). It was originally planned for last week, but Lambeth postponed the work due to the snow. If it is delayed again, we will be making sure the Council continues to make this road a priority as soon as conditions are suitable.
This improvement is long overdue, with the road down to soil in some places, and it follows over a year of campaigning and meetings with officers by Carl, Andrew and Suzanne. Last summer we declared the area a beach when the surface became so bad that sand appeared, but it has taken another 5 months for action to be taken.
There will be disruption while the work takes place, so we have asked the council to be as quick as possible. Even so, we welcome this new investment, which reflects our efforts to get the council to invest in Norwood’s roads and pavements instead of endlessly putting money into “prestige” but less vital schemes in Brixton and elsewhere.
UPDATE I (19/01/10): Resurfacing work began on Tuesday 19 January and should be completed on Wednesday 20 January. This means the 322 bus is being diverted along South Croxted Road instead of St Gothard Road and Gipsy Road between 9am and 5pm on both days.
