Lambeth says: “The Dustcarts must stay in Vale Street”

Betrayal of our area: Now is the time to have your say

You have been badly let down by Labour-controlled Lambeth Council.

In 2006, the Council sited a dustcart depot in Vale Street.  This was supposedly “temporary” until September 2009, to allow time to build a permanent depot for the trucks.  The tricks are too large for residential roads such as Martell, Rosendale and Clive Road.  We also said that once the trucks were here we didn’t trust the Council to remove them.

As we predicted, the Council has failed to create a permanent site.  It says this is in part because of changes in national waste policy – yet these changes were known as early as 2007.  The council wants the trucks to stay in Vale Street for up to four years. even though this could cost some £16 million more than a new single site elsewhere.  The council has acknowledged that the Vale Street site is “not suitable for long-term use” yet they won’t move the trucks.

This is a betrayal – they said the arrangement was temporary. We warned the Council and the local MP what would happen, but they didn’t listen.

The Council needs an extension to its planning permission to allow the trucks to remain here.  Please oppose the planning permission.  Objections must be submitted to the Council, no later than 3 June 2009.
