Fair Rents & Charges Campaign

Labour Lambeth plans to hike rents and service charges for Lambeth Living residents - sign our petition for fair rent and charges

Labour-run Lambeth Living is in financial meltdown and they want YOU to pay for it with another rent and charge increase for tenants and leaseholders.

Following last year’s rent hike – the country’s highest – Labour councillors are considering putting rents up an extra 5% from April 2010. That’s 20% more than 18 months ago.

Leaseholders are at risk too. Labour is considering an increase in charges of 8% at a time when the service from Lambeth Council has all but collapsed across the borough.

Labour has cut services and delayed improvement works while Lambeth Living wastes money. Consultants have been charging fees of up to almost £700 per hour.

FACT: Lambeth doled out £1,068,675 – 10% of its wage budget – on consultants in just seven months last year.

Conservative councillors are working with residents to stop these increases.

Carl says: “Labour Lambeth must at the very least follow guidelines from its own Government that clearly state rents should not rise by more than 3.1% this year.”

You can join other residents and tell Labour to stop the rises at a public meeting of the Tenants’ Forum on Thurs 21 January from 7.00pm at Lambeth Town Hall, Brixton.  If you aren’t able to join us, you can still make your voice heard by signing our petition below.

PETITION:

We the undersigned oppose Labour-run Lambeth Council's plans to increase Lambeth Living rents by 5% and leaseholder charges by 8% from April 2010. These rises exceed the Government's guideline of 3.1% and the Council must think again. Rents and charges must be fair and sustainable for residents, particularly those on modest incomes.
