A Cinema for Crystal Palace Triangle – Planning Update

cinema-campaign-logoThere have been developments in the quest to get a cinema in our area.

As you will know, a Church has bought the old cinema (and more recently a former Gala bingo hall) site on Church Road in the Bromley part of Crystal Palace Triangle.  Given the Church’s proposed size, we believe it would bring huge congestion and parking problems in this area were it to receive planning permission.

We agree with and have been supporting the local residents’ campaign for a cinema.  This would regenerate the Triangle area.  An independent cinema chain has said it is interested in the site (and indeed had put in a bid).

We were appalled to hear, therefore, that Lambeth Council’s Planning Department had made a submission to Bromley Council saying that Lambeth essentially had “no objections” to the Church’s application for change of use.

Residents and local councillors deluged the Planning Department in protest.  As a consequence, Lambeth will now “add to” its submission and object to the application.  This was confirmed at a meeting Andrew had with its officers.

The application will likely be considered by Bromley Council within weeks.

Andrew says:  “We would like to thank all residents who emailed the council to put their views.  Your efforts and ours have helped to change Lambeth’s submission.”

We will continue to update this website with any more progress over the coming weeks.
